Important Reminders
CISD 360 Tour
At this time, we are scheduled to only have afternoon tours.  Please know this might change. . .however for now if we could plan on being ready for a group coming through in the afternoon on Wednesday.  If 3rd and 5th grade could please take an earlier recess time on Wednesday in order to have more grade levels to get to quickly for the tour.  We will start in the library and go quickly to the classrooms as they are only on the campus for about an hour and 45 minutes.

If you would please as a team, go through and look at classroom spaces, hallway displays, etc. to make sure we are freshened up and ready for the tour!  This includes adding things to the hallway like qr codes to showcase learning, anchor charts, possibly enduring/essential questions, pictures of learning, etc.  Take a walk around the school to check out what others have posted to see the amazing types of learning being showcased!

TCE Potluck Luncheon
It is time of our next potluck at TCE!  Make sure and sign up on the following Google Doc, so we will know what we all are bringing to celebrate and enjoy lunch together!

TCE Austin Presentation
I wanted to let you all know about an exciting opportunity we have for TCE!  Our campus has been chosen to bring four of our kiddos down to Austin, Texas to share some of the amazing learning with STEM and technologies!  We have two 4th graders and two 5th graders who will be traveling to the capital in Austin with a group of educators from TCE in order to share with members from the state how we are using technologies as a part of our learning each day!

Engineering Extravaganza Night
We have moved our TCE Engineering night up to Thursday, February 16th from 5:30-7:00pm.  We will be talking more at our Feb. Faculty meeting about stations, resources and what we can do to vary activities for this year as well as streamline a bit more so people can get to more activities.  Be thinking about some activities that might be fun for our families on this night and more to come soon!

Watson App Exploration
We will be talking more during our STEM planning days about how we will be implementing and working with the new Watson app and future applications.  For now, if you could be thinking about the following questions I sent out from after the training:
As a campus. . .Thinking/Discussion Points
  • Think about how we can use this app to help support goals for our learners and drive our instruction...
  • How might we use this tool to collect various types of data across the campus...
  • Specific documentation:  Subject to open records, discussion points about this...
  • What are the areas we would be spotlighting for learners...
  • What types of data will we be collecting and using...
  • As a campus, clarity on what we would send, document, etc….
  • How will we share info on learners (departmentalized). . .
  • Comparing this tool to other tools we are currently using. . .seeing what works and what suggestions/ideas we may have. . .
  • Parent Communication

Book Study - Innovator's Mindset
I'm going to give a little extension to reading the final part of our 1st book study.  Please remember to have the last part of the book read by the following:  Read pages 122-229 by our February 1st faculty meeting.

#FinishthisFight Reflection
Late last Sunday, as Aaron Rodgers and Green Bay ruined my playoff party, I found myself thinking, where do the Cowboys go from here?  They overachieved as a team this year, how can they do better?  This question has already been addressed this week numerous times as the breakdown of the film begins.  One of the most critiqued figures will be the rookie quarterback, Dak Prescott.  As he finishes up packing up his locker, the reflection on his first NFL season has already started, and the process to improve on a season full of promise begins.

This past Thursday I had the opportunity to step into the classroom again (thank you Jenna!). We explored the day and night cycles, rotations and revolution of the earth, and many other questions that the fifth graders had.  It was such a great experience to be able to discover and learn with our fifth graders and hear them ask questions about their experience.  After finishing up, I immediately began reflecting.  I asked Jenna for feedback and feedback from her students. Naturally as educators and as members of society, we thrive on feedback and reflection. How can we be better?  Better in every facet of our lives.  Better learners and listeners.  With a growth mindset, we seek improvement, naturally.

Getting our learners to reflect as well is imperative to their growth and learning.  In order to make an impact, we must be cognizant that our learners are taking the time to reflect on their practice and understanding what they are learning.  Below you will find a couple of links about reflection, as an educator and a resource for you learners:

Have a great week and Jenna I’m still waiting for my T-Tess feedback,

Curriculum Ideas/Resources
As we are making our way to mid-year assessments and mid-year goal setting, think about ways in which you are helping to show learners how they are meeting their goals and continue to have a growth mindset for how they will continue growing!

Also, it is crucial that parents are aware of how their child is doing with their learning and that we aren't only giving feedback every nine weeks with report cards.

  • Have you met or scheduled a conference with any parents for learners who are struggling?
  • Have you sent home links/resources for parents to access learning?  This includes sharing journal work or other in class learning.
  • Is there a way you could send out some type of feedback between now and the middle of February to see any areas in which parents have questions or concerns about their child?

Final Quotes for the Week
As you think about your own personal goals and those of your kiddos, remember the importance of celebrating those steps along the way!
