From the Desk of BS…Volume 11

Pause. Breathe. Love.

Some are saying that the 2016 Presidential Election will go down as one of the most historic events in American history. There have been many Presidential races before, about 45 I believe, but this one seems to have more significance being that we are constantly connected to one another. Social media allows the world to stay in touch, and everything that happens that once was posted the next day on the front page of the New York Times, now becomes #trending all over the world in a matter of seconds.

We, being educators, can only take this as a learning opportunity for our learners. This week I witnessed everything from 1st graders to 60 year olds having an opinion about who should be the next president, and reasons why the opposition didn’t deserve it. We as Americans have the right to disagree, and the link below explains that there are proper ways to do it:

Thank you Kid President, and thank you TCE again for a wonderful week. Enjoy your weekend!

Curriculum Ideas
As we are going through the fall semester, now is the time when we may see more inappropriate behaviors starting to escalate for our learners.  Remember the importance of reviewing expectations for working in the classrooms and hallways with stations or collaboration activities.  Also, holding them accountable with expectations in the hallways when transitioning.  Make sure you are incorporating those tools like callbacks and music in the classroom to keep the energy positive and that you are giving more positive reinforcement to those learners doing a good job than negatives for redirecting learners.

I found another video connection for morning meetings that I thought would be a great review for you as you are incorporating these each week for your kiddos!  Remember the expectation is at least once a week, but you could incorporate them more, especially if you are having troubles with learners acting out or you can tell they are needing more attention.  It is a positive way to give them more attention, while still helping to create a safe, collaborative environment of learning!

Also, you might want to start a Pinterest board with morning meeting ideas or ideas on responsive teaching.  This is a great way to keep your meetings from becoming the same type of discussion each time.  If you have some ideas for morning meetings that have worked well for you or resources you would share, feel free to add them to the following Google Doc!

Final Quotes for the Week
For our final quotes for the week, I was thinking about the power behind words and huge impact they can make on each of us.  Think about a time when you were growing up when someone said something to you that made a difference in how you felt.  Was it a positive or negative experience and how did those words affect you during that time of your life?
